Joyner Lucas is mixed, his mother is white and his father is black. He must have gone through many difficulties in his life just because of his ethnicity. In his song “I’m not Racist” he talks about the thought process or reasonings as to why a black or white person is racist towards the other race. He gives a few reasonings, excuses, scenarios that have gone on in the past so that there’s a stronger connection and understanding to the listener. His ethnicity has helped him understand both perspectives.

So we could understand each other more but that’d take time
I’m not racist
It’s like we livin’ in the same buildin’ but splittin’ the both sides
I’m not racist
But there’s two sides to every story and now you know mine
Can’t erase the scars with a bandage
I’m hopin’ maybe we can come to an understandin’
Agree to disagree, we could have an understandin’
I’m not racist”
